Some Stuff About Me

Hey Everyone!

I am a Happyhardcore DJ that is based in Canberra, Australia powered by the wonders of the internet for content distribution and a striving goal to push boundaries and spin music in ever more creative ways. I am still just a bedroom DJ doing the occasional gig and a radio show on happyhardcore.com, its nothing amazing but its really fun!

I have been spinning Happy Hardcore for about 3 years. I first picked up an interest in it through some early Scooter tracks around 2001 and things just went from there.

I sat back and listened to the mixes for a few years and became really interested in the way people mixed tracks and how people produce hardcore music. So in 2004 I decided to give it a go and picked myself up a copy of Traktor DJ Studio 2.6.

After this I knew that I wanted to continue mixing as a hobby, I bought myself some Pioneer CDJ-800 Mk2's and a Pioneer DJM-707 mixer and learnt how to mix on those. After endless hours of practice I finally started to get better at beatmatching and learning how to mix.

For the next two years I compiled mixes which I called Hardcore *Ch00nage and submitted them to be heard in rotation on Happyhardcore.com Radio. My mixes got accepted and made me really interested to make more as people seemed to respond well to them.

*The term ch00nage comes from "Ch00n" which was often used in the Happyhardcore.com chat to mean "Tune" or awesome track.

About a year went on and I decided to set up a small website called The Australian Hardcore Network, with a little help from Envias (Patrick) we set up a website and a small shoutcast server. We had an IRC Channel and basically had a small community of about 30 people (at its peak) and just mixed and had fun.

At the start of 2007 I decided to do a 10 Minute Micromix for Youtube. The video got a suprising amount of views and so I decided to do more. I never thought the videos would get the amount of views that they are getting at the moment. I discovered youtube is an excellent way to put yourself out there. I entered the 10 Minute DJ Mag Micromix competition and to my suprise came 8th overall.

In May 2007 after much negotiation things really started to pick up, Envias and Myself created The Australian Hardcore Show on Happyhardcore.com Radio. This show is still running and you can catch Dj Ravine and Dj Cotts + Special Guests live each Wednesday.

In March 2008 I launched DJCotts.net which is now DJCotts.com.au. This was to try and distribute my Hardcore Ch00nage mix series + others more easily as people had been asking to download them for a very long time.

The future awaits and I have a feeling its looking good.

Thankyou for taking the time out to read this and my advice to anyone thinking of starting to DJ is to simply go for it. It's a great hobby that lets you express yourself through the music you enjoy. Practice hard and you will get great rewards.

Cheers,

DJ Cotts
